Cod liver oil (CLO) was used as a panacea for everything that effected the health and daily activities of the Icelandic people.
Today, Icelanders live longer than any other people on earth. They have less heart disease and high blood pressure than any other culture in the world. They also have the lowest infant mortality rate. Icelandic women give birth to healthy babies with well developed immune systems, nervous systems and optimal brain and eye functions.
- Far north in the icy Atlantic, lives a truly remarkable culture of people who have withstood the challenges of harsh weather and long seasons of darkness. This is the island nation of Iceland.
- This amazing oil has always been an important part of the diet of the Icelandic people. They instinctively recognized the importance of vitamin A, vitamin D and the essential omega-3 fatty acids found in cod liver oil.
- Order Today: Cod Liver Oil
Regular use of cod liver oil has supported the overall health of the Icelandic people for thousands of years. Now, this same product is available to support your overall health.
Olde World Icelandic Oil is the most natural and carefully tested CLO available. The oil comes from the pure cold waters of Iceland and is cold processed using traditional methods that ensure all of the naturally occurring vitamins and Omega-3 essential fatty acids remain intact.
Olde World Icelandic CLO is the best source for natural levels of vitamins A and D. It also is a rich source of DHA, EPA and other essential Omega-3 fatty acids.
Other cod liver oils remove the naturally occurring vitamin A and D during the deodorization process and then supplement the finished product with a synthetic form of these vitamins. Garden of Life’s Old World Icelandic CLO is undeodorized, unbleached and contains only the naturally occurring vitamins A and D.
Old World Icelandic CLO is made with a pleasant tasting all natural lemon-mint flavor to eliminate the fishy aftertaste reminiscent of your grandma’s CLO.
Our product has been nitrogen flushed to ensure freshness and prevent oxidation.
Healthy Cardiovascular Function
Known to improve the condition of the heart and cardiovascular system.
The elongated omega-3 fatty acids in CLO positively affect the linings of the arteries. The Vitamins A and D found in cod liver oil help to improve muscle function and support the elasticity of blood vessels.
Additionally, cod liver oil acts as a natural blood thinner that can keep platelets from sticking together and reduce the likelihood of clogged arteries. It has also been shown to reduce high cholesterol levels.
Highly recommended for those that are at risk for heart disease.
Relief From Chronic Joint Pain
The potential benefit of cod liver oil to those suffering from chronic joint pain cannot be overstated. Extensive joint research found that the elongated omega-3 fatty acids in cod liver oil reduce pain and damage to inflamed joints and joint cartilage. CLO is highly recommended for those people who experience adverse side effects when taking non-steroidal and anti-inflammatory drugs.
Relieves Skin Disorders
The regular consumption of omega-3 fatty acids may be beneficial to those suffering from inflammatory skin disorders. Sufferers generally register low levels of omega-3 fatty acids and have altered essential fatty acid metabolisms. Therefore, the regular consumption of CLO may help alleviate the inflammation and overall severity of these conditions.
Beneficial To Pregnant And Nursing Mothers
Cod liver oil helps promote optimal brain development in the fetus, increases the level of vitamin A which prevents infections and improves the fatty acid profile in breast milk.
A study published in the January 2003 issue of Pediatrics found the intake of long chain omega-3 fatty acids from CLO may be favorable. Additional studies indicate that supplementing with cod liver oil may result in an increase of the child’s IQ by an average of 7 points.
Scientists have confirmed the age-old belief that cod liver oil is good for the joints.
Cardiff-based researchers say taking the supplement could delay or even reverse the destruction of joint cartilage and inflammatory pain associated with arthritic disease.
They believe it could even delay joint replacement surgery.
Millions of people are affected by osteoarthritis,
Although it is traditionally associated with old age, one in 1,000 children suffers from arthritis.
Severe arthritis causes significant disability for over three million people.
The condition can be life-threatening through its effect on other organs in the body and increased susceptibility to infection.
In the Cardiff research, Professor Bruce Caterson of the School of Biomedicine at Cardiff University looked at the effect of Omega-3 fatty acids (the main component of CLO) on the discarded arthritic knees of people undergoing knee replacement surgery.
Some were treated with Omega-3 fatty acids for 24 hours in a laboratory – others were not.
A chemical was added to mimic an inflammatory response, and the samples examined four days later.
When researchers looked at the cartilage pieces, they found a particular kind of a body chemical called enzymes, which was responsible for destroying cartilage in arthritis, was present in the untreated group.
But they were ‘turn off’ in those treated with Omega-3 fatty acids, as were the enzymes which cause inflammation and pain in joints.
Professor Caterson said his research had been able to prove the theory CLO could help the joints.
“Cod liver oil, which contains Omega-3 fatty acids can be very helpful and beneficial in arthritic diseases.
“So in very simple terms, we’ve been able to show that we can slow down or remove the activities of the enzymes that degrade cartilage in arthritis, and as well, we can keep inflammation down to a lower level.”
Fergus Logan, chief executive of the Arthritis Research Campaign, which partly funded the research, said: “Thanks to Professor Caterson, we know precisely what CLO can do, where it can help and how that happens.
“It’s an absolutely rational basis for taking it, rather than a ‘hit and hope -my granny thought it might be good for me’ approach to medicine which is not particularly well targeted.”
“These findings are extremely exciting, and offer a scientific basis for why CLO helps people with arthritis – and has done for many years.
“Not only does CLO reduce pain and inflammation in the joints of people with osteoarthritis but we now know it also turns off the enzymes responsible for destroying cartilage.
“We’re delighted that something as simple and non-controversial as CLO has the potential to bring relief and restore quality of life to so many people who suffer from osteoarthritis.”
